IGA just bought a runtime kill-switch for AI agents. That is the deal. Not another “identity for AI” slogan.
On September 24, 2026, Copenhagen-based Omada A/S announced it has acquired EmpowerID, which the PRNewswire primary calls a pioneer in AI agent governance. The stated aim: bring EmpowerID’s runtime agent governance into Omada so the platform can secure human, non-human, and agent identities under one fabric. Deal price, revenue, and headcount: Undisclosed.
What Omada says it is buying. The release frames AI agents as the fastest-growing — and least governed — identity population inside the enterprise. Access controls built for people were not designed for software that moves at machine speed. Combined, Omada and EmpowerID claim organizations can decide in real time what each agent is permitted to do and stop it the instant it steps outside those boundaries — instead of learning what happened at the next audit. The acquisition follows Omada’s June announcement of an Agent Governance solution. With this investment, Omada says it will deliver five things: governance for every identity (humans, applications, workloads, AI agents) through the same lifecycle, access, and certification services; a single continuously maintained view of identities, entitlements, and relationships; runtime authorization at the moment of the request using live risk and governance context; agentic governance from discovery to control (discovery of agents, tools, and reach; ownership and lifecycle; certification; runtime control); and continuous compliance evidence recorded as grants, decisions, and reviews happen.
Quotes that matter — and the ones that signal product vs press. Omada CEO Jakob H. Kraglund (PRNewswire): agents already act inside enterprise systems faster than most security teams can track; the acquisition means customers can be told not just what agents have access to, but can stop those agents the moment they step outside the lines — “in real time, not after the fact.” His framing: “That’s the difference between governing AI and just monitoring it.” EmpowerID CEO and co-founder Patrick Parker joins Omada as chief innovation officer to drive next-generation identity security and support integration of EmpowerID’s agent governance into Omada’s platform. Parker (same primary): EmpowerID was built to govern identity as one platform that manages every human and AI agent and proves in real time what each is allowed to do; with Omada, that foundation reaches enterprises at a scale EmpowerID could not alone. KuppingerCole Distinguished Analyst and Co-Founder Martin Kuppinger, quoted in the PR: AI agents act at machine speed, and governing them after the fact is not enough; with EmpowerID, Omada adds runtime authorization and security for AI agents to its IGA foundation — extending governance from who is entitled to access to what agents are actually permitted to do, as they do it. Stephens advised Omada and its shareholders on the transaction.
About Omada — company framing only. Omada positions as a global IGA leader helping organizations govern access across every human, non-human, and AI identity. Its platform is described as highly configurable, deployable in weeks rather than years, Danish-built, with cloud and managed infrastructure options. Site: omadaidentity.com. No ARR, valuation, customer count, or share figure appears in the acquisition PR — all Undisclosed.
POV. Platform IGA is consolidating agent identity instead of leaving a best-of-breed agent-governance layer to sit beside certification campaigns. That is a real strategic bet — and a product-proof question. Boards should ask whether “runtime authorization” ships as an enforceable control on the next agent call, or as press framing around the June Agent Governance launch plus an acquired roadmap. Discovery-to-control plus continuous evidence is the right architecture language. Underwrite it against demos where an out-of-policy agent action is stopped mid-request — not against analyst quotes in a press release. Best-of-breed agent identity vendors will keep selling speed and depth; Omada is selling one fabric for people, NHIs, and agents. Pick the underwrite: kill-switch or catalog merge. Terms stay Undisclosed.
Underwrite sheet — sourced only: Omada A/S (Copenhagen) acquires EmpowerID (PRNewswire Sep 24, 2026 09:00 ET); runtime agent governance into Omada for human / non-human / agent identities; follows June Agent Governance announce; deliverables claimed: every-identity governance, single view, runtime authorization, discovery-to-control, continuous compliance evidence (company); Kraglund CEO quote (governing vs monitoring); Parker joins as chief innovation officer; KuppingerCole Martin Kuppinger quote in PR; Stephens advised Omada/shareholders; price / revenue / headcount / share% Undisclosed. IGA buying a runtime agent kill-switch — underwrite the control, not the adjective.
